Trump will immediately open ANWR but...
March 9th, 2021 was a very big day for Alaska and America. This was the day congress approved legislation to open ANWR.
Unfortunately, Senator Lisa Murkowski took it upon herself to violate our Statehood Compact by writing wrongful "intent language" which is in violation of our Statehood Compact and Alaska's sovereign rights.
She wrote the legislation up to agree to a 50/50 revenue split instead of the historic compact between the US government and the State of Alaska which guarantees a 90/10 revenue split. At the very least, this legislation should have gone to the people of Alaska in order to be ratified by the citizens of Alaska as it was severely altering our financial agreement with the federal government.
Now we are at a precipice where ANWR is going to be opened through the Trump administration but it is essential that all Alaskans stand up for the rule of law and our sovereign rights to demand 90% of the revenue.
Why is this essential?
Most Alaskans are unaware that the Alaska Territorial delegation began soliciting the federal government for statehood status beginning in 1946 until 1958 when we were finally approved by 1 vote in the US senate.
Negotiating the 90/10 revenue split for resources developed on federal lands was the tipping point where the majority of US senators accepted the notion that Alaska could be self-sustaining given this agreement. It is the lynchpin sovereign relationship between the US government and the State of Alaska.
So what do we do?
It is incumbent that all citizens of Alaska contact their legislators immediately and request that they support a resolution which restores the 90/10 revenue share for ANWR. This is not a Democrat or Republican issue. This is an Alaskan issue. Our state Constitution directs all representatives of government to utilize Alaska's rich resources for the financial benefit of all Alaskans. There is no financial issue more urgent than this.
