Election Integrity

by Michael Chambers

Now that the election cycle has come and gone, while national elections were exhilarating from a conservative perspective, Alaska politics continues to be a complete trainwreck.

There is no such thing as "Election night" anymore.

Our Lt. Governor Nancy Dahlstrom attempts to put a happy face on the election fiasco by stating this...

“Alaska’s election process is unique because of our expansive geography, our various methods of voting, and our commitment to ensuring every voter’s voice is heard,” from urban centers to the most remote villages, we take the time required to receive, process, and count ballots securely and transparently.”

It is as if Alaska is caught up in the transportation and technology of the 1800s.

Important issues:

1. Absentee ballots:
Why can't absentee ballots be required to be postmarked and delivered on election day for counting?

2. Why can't early voting be counted on election day?

3. Why can't all ballots require individual marking such as a QR code so they can easily be verified and accounted?

4. Are we still using Dominion machines which are administratively restricted and prone to being hacked through the internet?

5. Why are Alaska's voter registration rolls substantially larger than our voting population? Where is the purge?

For years now, additional ballots have been sent out throughout Alaska to all voting districts. The problem exists when these "extra ballots" are not accounted for and collected in a central area. They are disposed in local jurisdictions. This activity begs of the possibility of fraud.

Proposition #2:

It appears that Proposition #2 has failed and Alaska will be stuck with Rank Choice Voting for at least 2 more years. The vote is extremely tight which will automatically trigger a recount.

The big question is, who is in charge of the recount? If it is not an independent outside firm, rest assured the results will stand because, ultimately, if you are counting fraudulent ballots the recount has very little significance.

The Majority Caucus:

Based on election results both the Senate and House will be commandeered by a Democrat majority. In both cases, Republicans will walk across the aisle to join Democrats ensuring the Democrat Party in Alaska controls the legislative narrative.

There is ZERO discipline within the Republican Party. They allow candidates to run as republicans even when they are far removed from republican values. As a result, these rogue candidates and legislators all but ruined the "Republican" moniker. As an example, the republican district officers presiding over the Eagle River/Chugach area endorsed Merrick Kelly even though she walked over to the Democrat Party both in the House and Senate.

Voters need to shoulder some of the blame as well. As stated, on the Senate side, Eagle River area residents re-elected Kelly Merrick even with her Democrat record. It was also Chuck Kopp who had a history of working with Democrats to ensure they had control. He has been elected again on the promise that he will carry defined benefits for his union buddies. Additionally, he is of the mind that all you have to do is throw massive amounts of money at public education in order to get better results, which is completely unfounded. These two issues will completely dismantle any semblance of a PFD going forward.

The Democrats reward these republican misfits richly by awarding them key positions in the Senate and House Democrat caucus.

Here is the list:
Senate
Republican Senator Gary Stevens - Chair Democrat Caucus
Republican Senator Bert Stedman - Finance Democrat Caucus
Republican Senator Cathy Giessel - Majority Leader Democrat Caucus
Republican Senator Kelly Merrick - Majority Whip Democrat Caucus

House:
Representative Louise Stutes - Rules Democrat Caucus
Representative Chuck Kopp - Majority Leader Democrat Caucus

*Late breaking news!
Given the election results of District 18 where republican David Nelson unseated Democrat Cliff Groh, this calls into question control of the House. Now there are more Republicans than Democrats so both Chuck Kopp and Louise abandoning their Party to help form a Democrat majority may be truly an act of republican treason which is all too common. Stay tuned....

A call to action...

As rational Alaskan conservatives, we now have two years to clean this mess up. It is imperative that we hold all legislators accountable for their legislative record and search for good conservative candidates. It is up to us to get behind these candidates and give them the support they will need in order to win elective office. Without conservative control of both the Senate and House, we will squander any good we may receive from a Trump administration. The commitment and choice will be ours.
