Sideways Eastman

A narrative on his legislative record...

While some supporters of David Eastman like to promote his legislation as the only "true" conservative record in the Alaska legislature, his actions tell a different story.

Lets take a closer look....

6 years ago the Alaska House election results gave the Republican Party a razor thin majority with 21 of 40 seats. Legislative leaders of the Republican Party made public statements that they would be forming a Republican majority. After this public announcement, although David Eastman ran and was elected as a Republican, he decided to walk away from a republican caucus and not be part of the majority. This singular act put the wheels of the House legislature in motion and Bryce Edgmon was elected as Speaker of the House thus handing legislative control over to a Democrat Majority.

During his legislative tenure David

Voted against Senate reconciliation of 2022 which would have given a full PFD ( approximately $3,500 ) to every citizen.

Voted against the re-establishment of the CACFA commission which was the state citizen's watchdog for violations of the federal government against our state sovereign rights.

Was the deciding vote against a pro Israel bill HB2 and refused to denounce and condemn anti-Semitic statements by some of his staunch supporters.

Was the deciding vote against SB140 an education bill which would have increased funding for homeschool students and given approval for a new charter school, thus handing the education funding formula over to NEA union puppets in the legislature which promoted more public funding without providing any benchmarks for excellence.

He voted against Representative Laddie Shaw's Vietnam Veteran's Helicopter sign bill for one of the bridges in the Mat-Su even when select citizens made commitments to pick up the sign cost.

David voted against increasing the amount a business could deduct from their taxes for a donation to K-12 schooling.

David voted against a bill for concierge medicine which would help hold down the immense costs of medicine here in Alaska.

These are just some of David's legislative record which bring question his "conservative" nature.

Ultimately, David Eastman is the most ineffective legislator in Juneau. This is essential because not all legislation is bad. There are many conservative legislators in Juneau who are promoting, legislating and getting legislation passed into law which promotes rational conservative values. David is not one.

David has never had one bill passed he sponsored in 8 years as a legislator, not even to reduce the size and scope of government.

On the other hand, he has cost the state thousands upon thousands of dollars in drafting bills and hundreds of amendments which are run through Legislative Legal services with ZERO return to show on the investment. We can do better. There are other true conservative choices on the ballot this election.
